The research focuses on the analysis of active methodologies in the teaching of Natural Sciences to basic education students, highlighting their importance in transforming learning. The main objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of active methodologies and their impact on the academic performance and engagement of eighth-grade students. The applied methodology based on a mixed approach, using a quasi-experimental design with a control group. Data were collected through academic performance tests and questionnaires measuring motivation and engagement, along with interviews and classroom observations to document the implementation of active methodologies. The results show that there was a positive effect on students' academic performance, evidenced by an increase in average grades among those who participated in practical and collaborative activities compared to the control group that followed a traditional teaching model. The discussion emphasizes that while active methodologies foster a collaborative environment and increase student motivation, it is necessary to address deficiencies in teacher training and the need for more robust formative assessments to optimize the educational experience in Natural Sciences.
